An ode to raglans served with a bit of whine..

If I only had a neckband...

I've finally gotten off my procrastinating bee-hind and started seaming my husband's cotton raglan sweater. I always whine about having to seam, but not this time. Unbelievably enough, I'm actually enjoying seaming this one. Heck...I'm REVELING in the gloriousness of the sewing of the raglan. I love raglans - fitting them to the body of the garment is like an easy jigsaw. And this one is particularly fun to sew 'cause the stitches are so nice and chunky. Plus, the twisted decreases on the body and ribbing on the sleeves make it easy to match the pieces up. Oh raglans, how I love thee!

In other news, I haven't done very much knitting lately so I haven't got much to share despite the long list of projects I've got planned. My first and only soon to be three-year-old child has gone off and started school for the first time, so my full-time Mommy gig has become a part-time Mommy gig. I was - and am - excited that he's starting school, but it feels very strange and a bit sad to not have him here and I'm still getting adjusted to the change. I should be knitting, or reading, or visiting weblogs, or working...doing other things I was only able to do in brief pockets of time before he started school, but I can't seem to focus myself yet. Argh. Whine, whine, whine! As my father would say in a melodramatic and woeful voice, "Oh, trials and tribulations!" No whiners allowed in my family.

So! One of the things I'll probably do on my "day off" is take a look-see at the yarn store. It'll be like therapy. Tee hee.

It takes a while to get used to the quiet.
yo, fluffalicious, i didn't know the sleeves were a different color!!! soooo secretive on the hubbo project. :) when exactly is the list of projects going to be published? i need to put it on my calendar!! come on, man, don't keep us in the dark. p.s. i can't wait to hear about CD's adventures!!
Sounds like wonderful therapy to me! And don't worry, you will eb able to focus once it really sets in that your time will not be interrupted. My kids have been back in school almost 4 weeks now and I am finally realizing I don't have to do it all in one day, I can spread it out over 5. So time to run errands and time to spend on me!
Yeah I can relate. Yesterday was the first day of school for my youngest. I was the one who was upset about it.
awww, and doesn't he look spiffy, backpack and all! I'm guessing with time you'll adapt to all this... well, time. And the hubby's sweater is looking quite snazzy. Those colors compliment each other quite nicely :)
I'm pretty unfocused myself after finishing a big project and before starting up the next one. Mommy is a hard gig. Give yourself a break!
Becky, um, I hate to point this out, but the sleeve and the body are, well, different COLORS. Groovy! I just took Mr. Four to his morning nursery school. It is kind of hard on one's heart, even when he enjoys it. Hope you find your rhythm soon. x0x0 Ann
wow, your little one looks so hip on his way to school. he must have learned it from his mommy... that sweater is going to be so nice. by the way, do you have a complete picture of the pretty cotton jacket? I looked at it in pieces but i wanted to see the whole thing!! :)
The raglan looks great! I loooove raglans. They are actually fun to seam. And your little guy looks so adorable in his little backpack going off to school. Awww! The first day - I'm getting all teary just thinking about it. You must be a very proud mommy!
Your cute little boy started school already? Soon, they'll taking them away before we finish breastfeading them... I guess it's normal to feel the way you do. It's like as if you were searching for him or living with a ghost. Weird, non? Hope everything comes back to normal next week. Nice raglan! Bisou.
i love your site ;) i was reading through your past projects, and came across a sentence where you metioned something about a book coming out this fall? i am very interested! i love your knitting style and would love to learn more! since you like light, tiny needles -- i found some older plastic hollow circulars that my husband's grandmother used. they are great for tiny hands (never an advantage with piano however). i don't know how common these are around thrift shops etc., but i can't find them anywhere in regular stores! will i be able to buy your book of this site or (hopefully) somewhere in Canada (west coast please)? keep me posted on book progress!
Today is your bebe's birthday. Thank God it fell on a Sunday, otherwise you'd be at home twisting your fingers and looking out of the window real forlorn-like. Love the raglan, but I love my Godson more. Hope you get used to the quiet soon. You can always occupy that time by thinking of me and knitting me new things. Maybe that will help? Love you... (eat cake!)
