Sweater for the mister.

spring2003_raglansweater.jpg
This is after I frogged and reknit 60 rows.
That's right. Sixty. Please, make it stop.

The cotton raglan sweater I'm knitting for my husband is turning into a nice lazy project; I've only been knitting a few rows every evening but it seems to progress relatively quickly thanks to the larger gauge. And guess what! Knitting with cotton can be a surefire way to show how shot your knitting tension can look sometimes. Early yesterday morning I looked at this sweater and in a fit of caffeinated giddiness ripped out a whopping 60 rows. Just because I didn't like my tension. Send decaf.

What's that? My Rowan Pagan tank? Oh yes. I finished knitting the armhole and neckline bands on the tank late last night, and then decided to just go ahead and seam it even though I was practically falling asleep because I was on a roll and wanted to try it on to see how it looked. Like suspense? Good. 'Cause all I'm gonna say is that I'm soooo glad I reworked the pattern. I love how this tank fits! It's early in the morning right now and I've got the tank carefully spread out on a towel in a final session of wet blocking. I've put the tank next to an open window in the hopes it'll dry quickly; today might hit the 80s and I'd really love to wear it.

P.S. My new digital camera (and battery recharger [!]) will be delivered in a few weeks. For now, I'm still using my faithful little spycam.

Sounds like a sunny tank day is planned in France! Its the same over here, sun already high in the sky and gorgeous weather, I decided to wear Pagan to work and I'm glad I did. What a fab day! Can't wait to see you and Pagan soon..
OK crazy blocking lady, get over it already and show us Pagan!!! :) and what is the pattern on hubby's new one?
might hit the 80s, huh? you lucky duck. I think we're at about 90 today and I'm sweating it out. all those years of having air conditioning really spoiled me... I can't handle this heat!
i can't wait to see pagan - and you need to lay off that caffeine, girly!
Can you say "tank envy." I am pea green. Can't wait to see Pagan. Ciao, Leslie Nake-id Knits
What pattern are you using for your husband? You may have mentioned it....but I missed it. I am looking for a fairly plain pattern to make something for my boyfriend!
you know, i think the ribbing pattern changes with the larger pattern in that sweater, because I only have four repetitions of the 3/2 bit in the middle. i did a fair amount of ripping out and tried again, only to get the same results. if i try to get it to look like yours, it ends up off center. BLAST!
Lately none of my knitting looks right anymore. I think cotton would push me over the edge. As it is, I just keep plugging along and muttering to myself, "it will block out, it will block out". Looking forward to Pagan's debut!
Guess what? The weather was gorgeous all day yesterday, but Pagan wasn't dry by the time we left! (Long weekend here, so my husband took us to the park.) I rode a bicycle, watched my kid on a go-kart, and ate an ice cream while wearing just a regular old humdrum sleeveless white tee. Pagan missed out on a fun day. P.S. to Melanie: Which size are you doing? I'll take a look at it and try to figure out why your center panel would be coming out differently.
Love-a-duck! Seaming whilst feeling sleepy?! Man, you really must have been on one helluva roll. If I had of done that I would have a tank (or singlet top, as we call them here in Australia) that only Houdini could wear! So, come on already - where are those darn dancing shots? Pagan, Pagan, Pagan...
hey becky - i'm using size 4, on the sport laine pattern. the center panel for this yarn is 22 stitches, whereas it's 27 stitches for the pegase. so, it looks like the pattern varies according to the type of yarn you're using. problem solved!!!
Ah....that explains it! But I'm not using Pegase; I decided to use Aviso cotton on size 4.5 needles, which gives me the same gauge as Sport Laine. So we're still doing this pattern in tandem, only we're doing different sizes. I'm doing size 2, so according to the pattern, you should have 6 more stitches in the center panel than I do.
Finished already? Someone (me) has to move her behind on her own tank....
uhoh! I got a 404 when I clicked on the current project/jacket with bobbles. (And I reeeeally want to see it.) :)
Claudia, what are you waiting for? Finish that tank!
HEY! thats what blocking is for. to fix the tension of a little stretched out cotton. (you taught me that!)
Gonna have to disagree with you, Morgan. I never said that blocking corrects crappy tension. I have, however, said that cold water sprays recondition yarns that have been ripped out too many times and have become stretched out: http://www.skinnyrabbit.com/projects/002082.php In my opinion, the only solution for correcting crappy tension is FROGGING :-)
