First off, I'm a nice person. If you'd like to write me just to be friendly and say "hello", please do. I answer those messages as soon as I read them. That said, I've had this site since 2002 and these are the countless messages I get [but don't answer]:
Re getting copies of patterns I used to knit projects shown in my site. Straight and to the point: Please don't write me just so you can ask me for copies of patterns that I purchased for my own use. I find this impolite. Plus, it may constitute copyright infringement. (I dislike that I have to even mention this, but I can't get over the number of complete strangers who "stumble" upon my site and write to me just so they can ask me to send them copyrighted patterns for things I've knit. Sometimes they don't even bother to open their message with a greeting. I can't imagine a stranger coming up to me on the street to ask me to give them a pattern without nary a "hello", so I don't see why doing it via e-mail should make it acceptable.)
Re which pattern I used for what project. Clearly, these messages come from those who haven't taken a minute to read the entry where they saw the photos of my finished project. If I used a pattern, I'll mention which one in the category or entry where I showed photos of the finished project. Please look there, it may take a minute or two of reading, which is quicker than typing a message and waiting for me to [probably not] reply. However, if you'd like my opinion on how the project has endured, if it was easy to wear or anything similar and what you're asking isn't shared on the site, feel free to write me to ask.
Re where to find Phildar, Rowan, Rebecca, or [insert any other pattern/yarn] I've knit: I don't sell, provide, share or advise others where products by these companies can be found other than the mentions I make on my site or on my links page. Write to the company in question for yarns or patterns you need or want if you don't find a supplier on my links page, or do a search query online. You'll get an answer faster that way instead of sending me an email and waiting for me to [again, probably not] reply to it. Update 02/10: I often "de-stash", and put back issues of pattern book, magazines & yarn in my eBay [RSS feed is here] or in my "stash-o-mat". I do this sporadically, and often in large numbers of listings. If you do not see anything in either at this time, subscribe to the feeds to be notified of new additions.
Re my giving help on a French pattern: Oh, I wish I had the time. But I don't, so I do not answer e-mails requesting clarification of translations of French patterns people have managed to obtain. I'm also unable to answer e-mails that request help on any patterns (whether Phildar, Rowan, Rebecca, etc.). I'm sorry, but my current schedule doesn't allow me to give individual help via e-mail. This site is full of archives with tips and info I've given and maintained online at my own time and expense with no cost to you, and it's a pretty good amount as it is. If you don't find what you're looking for here, there are many knitter forums out there with people willing to answer questions and I suggest an online search be done for them, or why not try your local yarn supplier?
